Homes for Lambeth is building 64 new affordable homes at Westbury Estate, in the north of the borough near Wandsworth Road which are prioritised for Westbury Estate residents. These new homes form part of phase one of Homes for Lambeth's rebuilding of the estate. Future phases, two and three will deliver even more homes to meet the housing demand in Lambeth.
In June 2020, HfL invited residents to look at and choose their new kitchens in these phase one properties. Residents were given a number of ways to choose including; by phone, post, email or attending a kitchen viewing event. Residents coming along in person were given a time slot and a secure one-way system was created to allow them to safely choose. Face coverings were mandatory, hand sanitisers and gloves were also provided.
We spoke with Maxine to ask her how she found the construction and the event. Maxine said:
Work is getting on quite well, the staff on the site have been extremely nice and polite, in fact, one of them helped me carry my shopping to my door. It’s really positive to see the progress that has been made and I am excited to be choosing my new kitchens.
