We recently wrote to local residents with an update on the old boiler house which you can either download here or ready the text from the letter below.
RE: Update on the old boiler house
I wrote to you before the summer with a timetable of plans to demolish the old boiler house on Overton Road. I can now provide you with an update of the works.
What has happened since summer?
After working closely with your local housing office, the local church, school, the council's employers' agent Artelia and the contractors, I am pleased to report that the old boiler house demolition has been completed on time.
Feedback from stakeholders was very positive about the way the works were carried out with works completed at the end of October. Keys to the secured site have now been handed back to the council.
What will happen next?
The council will soon start talking with key stakeholders and residents/businesses of Angell Town estate about ideas for a temporary use for the site. This is to prevent the site been left disused. No decision or plans have been made about the future use of the site, although there is a suggestion that the temporary use should be inter-generational to benefit all members of the community. Feasible ideas from the community will be considered in line with budgets and timescales for the site. The council has a one-off budget to support the temporary use. There is no further budget for ongoing maintenance of the site.
How can I have my say?
We attended a residents meeting on 20 November and are hoping to attend any further residents meetings that are scheduled to talk to residents and answer any questions. We will also be looking at holding an engagement event in the New Year to talk through final ideas in more detail along with some timescales and budgets.
We will provide updates via newsletters, the school’s communication channels, the web-site (see below), the contact group and further engagement sessions if required.
