In the past year, we have seen how small actions make a big difference to our communities. In this new series, we want to celebrate these extra-ordinary characters that make all our lives richer. These characters often go unrecognised.
Rose Ryan has lived on South Lambeth estate for 43 years. In 2002, Rose developed breast cancer and suffered with depression in the aftermath.
She decided to get creative: creating beautiful greetings cards as new focus, donating the proceeds to Breast Cancer Care.
The cancer returned in 2018 – but Rose kept going, continuing to raise funds for charity. Rose has also hosted craft-making sessions for our residents during the school holidays.
Research shows that if you are experiencing mental health difficulties, being creative can help manage anxiety and develop greater ‘flow’. The example Rose set is inspirational because she took a challenging situation and found a new way forward to help others.
We salute you Rose! If you’d like to find out more about our next craft-making sessions, make sure you are subscribed to our social media channels.
