Residents of both Darlington and Hunter Houses have been written to about a upcoming structural investigation of the blocks. This is to investigate whether these building could have more and better homes build above them to held tackle the housing crisis in the borough.

The structural investigation will take place between 9am to 5pm on 9th, 10th and 11th May 2016. Engineers from the Council appointed contractor, ESG, will carrying out the work under close supervision from Lambeth staff. These investigations will mean t access to individual flats as well as the roof and staircase areas and will see:

  • The removal of finishes (paint, wallpaper and plaster) in a number of locations.
  • The removal of finishes and extraction of a sample of existing roof slab in a number of locations. This will require access to the flats underneath.
  • The removal of finishes and extraction of brick samples.
  • Extraction of a sample of concrete from the stair case walls in 2 locations (one in each building) at fourth floor.

All homes and communal areas where this is done will be repaired by Council builders following the completion of these investigations.
