Homes for Lambeth supports Refugee Community Kitchen

Homes for Lambeth investing in our communities to thrive and building better futures for our residents. That’s why over the last few months, we have encouraged our colleagues to volunteer at the Refugee Community Kitchen.

The Refugee Community Kitchen is a charity that serves hot, nourished meals to displaced people all across London, including Brixton as part of ’the Brixton Outreach’.

The Brixton Outreach serves the South London community every Sunday. It was established in 2019 by Hermione, who continues to run the project today. Working with Wilf, RCK chef, they coordinate and make highly nutritious food with supplies from local grocers and donations from The Felix Project.

Throughout the pandemic, our colleagues have been supporting this organisation through volunteering.

Lloyd, our Head of IT,  helped out at an outreach event, said:

‘Seeing the many people that require food and basic supplements makes me more determined to help RCK. A few of my colleagues and I have been volunteering with RCK. It has been a great bonding experience – both for us, but with the wider community.’

Likewise, Shaheen, our Housing Contracts Manager, said ‘I have found the experience to be extremely rewarding. Each week I am seeing familiar faces queuing up with good feedback on the food. For some people, it is the only decent meal they eat in the week. The other volunteers are lovely people. If you can, please volunteer and offer your support.’
