Homes for Lambeth – Lambeth Council’s wholly-owned housing delivery company – is delighted to announce the start of works to build 14 new homes on Hydethrope Road in Balham.
IKew Service Ltd, the contractor chosen by Homes for Lambeth, have started the enabling works and will shortly commence the construction. The new homes include 6 new affordable homes and are expected to be completed in Autumn 2022.
The new development will significantly improve the quality and appearance of the existing area and will see new tree planting and landscaping along Hydethorpe Road and Thornton Road to improve the quality and appearance of the street and surrounding areas. The development will be car-free and encourages sustainable modes of transport, offering secure cycle parking for all residents.
Caroline Pillay, Chair of Homes for Lambeth Group, welcomed the news and said: “It’s great to see us getting off the ground at Hydethorpe Road. As part of our commitment to meet Lambeth Council’s Zero Carbon 2030 pledge, our ambitious plans on this site will see us reduce carbon emissions by more than 70%. It is for this reason Hydethorpe Road was showcased in the New London Architecture’s (NLA) Zero Carbon London Report.
We are continuously working towards making Lambeth Cleaner and Greener for our residents.”
Commenting on the news, Jason Emile, Development Director at Homes for Lambeth said: “We are very pleased to see this scheme start and it’s great to have IKew onboard. Hydethorpe Road is the first of our Small Sites Programme to build more and better homes. The new homes will make a positive impact by not only helping to fight the housing crisis in Lambeth but also by providing a green outdoor space that existing and new residents can both enjoy.”
Lee Fitzgerald, Managing Director at IKew, added: “IKew Service Ltd are very excited to have been awarded this project by Homes for Lambeth as part of the small sites programme and look forward to the commencement and delivery of the Hydethorpe scheme. We hope this will be the start of a longstanding partnership with Homes for Lambeth on this programme.”
