The pandemic has highlighted just how important social carers are – they work hard every day and are often undervalued. At Homes for Lambeth, we are working hard to ensure we live up to our commitments to our residents and staff to build a supportive and caring work environment where people can flourish - that’s why we’ve signed up to Harry’s Pledge. Harry’s Pledge is an initiative between housing organisations, the Chartered Institute of Housing, National Housing Federation an Inside Housing. The pledge sets a standard in the housing sector and means we update our working policies and practices to allow carers to thrive in our organisation. It’s a demonstration of our collective ambition and renewed commitment to carers. Our Director of Operations, Samantha Herelle said ‘The dedication shown by carers is unrivalled, especially throughout the pandemic. We are committed to supporting our resident carers by offering wellbeing sessions and family activities their loved ones can enjoy; young and old. As an organisation, we are also supporting our staff members who are also carers, we understand that sometimes they will have to put family first, and that is the right thing to do. By introducing varied forms of leave we are building an inclusive workplace and doing right by our staff and their families.’
