We are proud to announce that Homes for Lambeth has received the British Dyslexia Association’s (BDA) Smart Award in recognition of our openness and celebration of dyslexic and neurodiverse individuals. We have taken various steps to ensure dyslexic individuals are well supported and respected, as well as raising awareness and understanding.
British Dyslexia Association’s (BDA) Smart Award is a framework for institutions to create inclusive and accepting cultures for dyslexic and neurodiverse people. It aims to provide a roadmap for organisations to promote and support people with dyslexia.
We are keen to be inclusive and welcoming for our residents and employees with dyslexia and will continue to help increase awareness of dyslexia across Lambeth with all the partners and businesses we interact with.
Maxine, our resident engagement officer, says,
“‘I’m proud to work for an organisation that embraces people like me who struggle with dyslexia. As dyslexics, we are encouraged to not see this as a disability but focus on our strengths and talents and to seek support within our departments.”
This award gives us the chance to promote our support for neurodiverse people. Many employers have a plethora of talent they are not utilising effectively due to a lack of education. The Dyslexia Smart Award can help unlock talent and harness those talents by creating a safe environment for employees to thrive.
