HFL Homes has achieved the Secured by Design (SBD) Gold Award, a first of its kind for one of their developments. Developers around the UK can receive SBD awards for incorporating crime prevention measures and techniques into the design of their developments.
The Gold award was issued by Secured by Design in recognition of the achievement to design potential crime out at Eliza Cook House on Knights Walk estate. It acknowledges the measures taken to reduce the opportunity for crime and anti-social behaviour by improved layout, environmental design, and the use of Police Preferred Specification products.
Homes for Lambeth have delivered 16 new homes at Knights Walk estate, located on Renfrew Road, Kennington. The previously known low-rise development consisting of garages, has been transformed into a modern and sustainable 5-storey building - with the extra space surrounding the new apartments being used as a garden and planting area for residents to use.
The new homes mark the completion of Phase 1 of the wider rebuilding of the estate, with Phase 2 set to commence later this year. The scheme delivered by construction company, Hill Group. The new homes reduce carbon emissions by at least 35% and guarantee safe and affordable homes for our residents to live in.
HFL Homes and Hill Group worked closely with the SBD officer to ensure involvement within the early stages of planning. HFL Homes and Hill Group have been praised by SBD for their compliance and help – allowing the development to be open to SBD requirements. The development provides an anti-climb device to the rear balconies and the new homes provide extra security between floors.
