Fenwick Estate Gardening & Activities

Over the past few months we have been transforming the space at 66 Willington Road into a space that is welcoming to all residents so find out more about how you can get involved.

Over the past few months we have been transforming the space at 66 Willington Road into a space that is welcoming to all residents and where we can run some more informal activities; such as cooking, craft, gardening; alongside the drop ins and meetings that Lambeth are arranging.

On Tuesday afternoons, the team and I from make:good will be in 66 Willington Road running activities which we hope residents will get involved in; if you have an idea for an activity you would like to see happening get in touch and let us know and we will see what we can do. No. 66 should be a space for everybody to come and ask questions about the regeneration programme but also to get involved in local activities that might be the type of things that happen more regularly in community spaces when the new homes are built. Having activities that residents participate in is important to Homes for Lambeth and make:good is using this as an opportunity to try out what types of activities people enjoy and what they would like to see.

In order to get the space ready and make it feel more friendly on a small budget we needed to be very resourceful. We got some donated crates from a company that delivers art; soil from a house garden in Clapham where the owners had been digging a basement and had lots of spare soil, freecycled furniture and pulled in to some favours from builders on other projects to make sure we were frugal but the space looks inviting and most importantly is safe to access.

The final push to get the garden ready was part of our gardening party on the 17th April where we had lots of residents and children visit us in the glorious sunshine and help us plant lavender, potatoes, onions, garlic and pumpkin.

You might also have seen us out and about on the estate with our wheelbarrow talking to residents and getting people to help us plant up some seeds. We are trying to cover each block over the coming weeks to raise awareness of what we are doing.

As well as our Tuesday afternoon slot we will also be running some sessions on weekends and evenings so keep an eye on the calendar online or on the back of the newsletter to find out more detail.

Hope to see you in No. 66 soon.
