Edible Westbury Estate

When the Development Management Team first spoke to residents about the new landscape spaces on Westbury Estate the idea of food growing was raised and we've been trying out some ideas in No.7 Fovant Court.

When we started our weekly residency in Number 7 Fovant Court we seized the opportunity to encourage residents to turn the garden space into a food growing space. This idea has gathered its own momentum and has generated a lot of conversation and interest in the garden and encouraged by some green-fingered residents we have got some abundant crops.

Over the past few months we have been working weekly on generating and growing a range of flowers, fruits, and vegetables including: beans (a few kinds), potatoes, onions, garlic, tomatoes, strawberries, squash, chilli, beetroot, broccoli, herbs, cucumber, and edible flowers such as marigolds, sunflowers & pansies!

In the new estate there will be space for food growing in the communal spaces, so this has been a great way to test out if people are interested in this activity. Overall there has been a fantastically positive response to this. We are in No.7 every Friday afternoon so please pop in to have a look, and even take some produce home to use.

As a way of celebrating and using the fruits (and vegetables) of our labour, we will be holding a harvest feast on the 16th of September. So come and join us for an afternoon of fun and delicious food made from the garden of No. 7. You can find out more information and RSVP here.
