Resident Engagement Group

Do you want to help shape the future plans for Central Hill?

Are you interested in getting involved and making a difference?

Over the next few weeks, we are looking for residents to come forward and join the new Resident Engagement Group for Central Hill.

This is a fantastic opportunity to make a positive difference for your area. The Resident Engagement Group will ensure that the community voice is at the forefront and will work in collaboration with Homes for Lambeth and the architects to shape the regeneration. PPCR, your independent advisors, will be supporting the set-up of the group and will be holding two workshops explaining more about the eligibility criteria and selection process. We will have a simple application process and PPCR will be available to assist with the application form.

More information to follow in the May Newsletter.

PRP chosen as masterplan architects for Central Hill

We are pleased to let you know that PRP have been chosen as the architect team who will work with you to develop a community led masterplan for Central Hill. Masterplanning is where the new homes, community facilities, landscaping and open space will be designed for an estate or large area.

PRP will be working very closely with you along every stage of the process so that your views are able to shape the initial ideas and designs for Central Hill.

Volunteer residents, plus representatives from Lambeth Council and Homes for Lambeth, looked at various aspects of the architects bids, assessing things like the architects’ experience and proposals for how they might work with you if chosen. Feedback from you, the residents of Central Hill, was also shared with the teams at the Council and Homes for Lambeth when scoring the bids.

Why was PRP chosen?

When all the scoring was complete PRP came out top. PRP demonstrated a strong track record of relevant experience. In particular, they had a very strong community focused approach to their proposals for Central Hill, with a good track record of consultation and communication with residents in masterplanning.

They also had strong proposals for, and experience of, delivering additional community benefits, such as mentoring for schoolchildren, work experience placements, apprenticeships and funding for local groups. They will commit to spending 10% of their fee on initiatives that will benefit the Central Hill community. We will consult with the Resident Engagement Group when it is set up on what some of this funding should be used for.

What you liked about PRP

All residents had the chance to meet the architects bidding to work at Central Hill in December 2021 and provide feedback on them and their proposals. Of those providing feedback, most found PRP’s proposals to be good or excellent. This applied to:

  • the quality of design and the proposed approach

  • the experience of the proposed PRP team and company

  • resident consultation and experience of involving residents in design

  • providing social value benefits to residents on the estate.

More about PRP

PRP is a well established architecture practice and has worked successfully with many communities. They have worked with the Central Hill community in the past and are looking forward to working with you again. With close to 60 years’ experience to draw on, PRP have established an exemplary track record in the design and delivery of quality homes and places of varying scale, complexity and diversity.

“At PRP we have extensive experience in listening, learning and understanding the needs of communities. We strongly believe that residents, local communities and stakeholders should be active players in the development of a vision for their area and we wish to ensure everyone is effectively and genuinely consulted at all levels so they can positively influence change to their neighbourhood.”

PRP has lots of experience of listening to, learning from, and working with communities

A couple of examples of PRP’s work:

High Path, LB Merton “Large Scale Community Led regeneration”

The regeneration, and phased transformation of an existing 1950s estate within the London Borough of Merton. PRP acted as masterplanner, lead designer, architect, landscape architect and community engagement lead of the regeneration project.

A masterplan was co-designed with residents, the community and stakeholders to create a vibrant, sustainable, mixed-tenure community, retaining existing residents and minimising off-site decanting.

To offer all residents a choice of new home, the masterplan includes a range of homes across all tenures and at the heart of it all, a neighbourhood park, providing a green haven for the community.

The proposed design of the building architecture incorporates the use of features that are distinctive elements of the Victorian period and the local conservation areas to create a new local architecture for South Wimbledon.

A masterplan was co-designed with the local community at High Path, LB Merton

Brownfield Estate, Tower Hamlets “Historic Buildings – Housing Block Refurbishment – Regeneration – Sustainable Design”

Brownfield estate was constructed between the 1950s and 1970s. PRP have been working with Poplar HARCA and the local community on regeneration proposals for this estate, consulting on refurbishment of existing listed buildings and homes, new homes and landscape and public realm improvements.

The proposals that were developed with the community consist of thorough, high quality renovation proposals for the two listed buildings, refurbishment of the remaining low-rise housing and 135 new homes on four sites. A variety of new and improved landscaped open spaces and play facilities were also included across all areas or the neighbourhood.

PRP have worked very closely with the community along all stages of the regeneration process to produce a scheme that combined all these elements together to make the buildings all feel connected and part of the Brownfield estate.

Proposals were developed with the community for new and refurbished homes at the Brownfield Estate

Housing Needs, Equality and Health Impact Assessment to support the regeneration of Central Hill and have a chance to WIN a free iPad!

Lambeth Council has commissioned an independent team to carry out a Housing Heeds, Equality and Health Impact Assessment to support the regeneration of the estate.

This assessment will capture the housing needs of residents now and in the future. The survey will also inform the way we communicate and engage with you and your neighbours over the coming months, helping to make it as accessible as possible.

Finally, the information you provide us with will help us to ensure the masterplan has a positive impact on existing residents health and wellbeing and any negative impacts are reduced.

Please look out for more information about the survey which will start late April 2022.
