A group of industrious interns and apprentices at Homes for Lambeth were recently congratulated on their success in their roles by the HFL team as some of them prepare for fresh opportunities as they complete their time with the organisation
All the candidates successfully completely the apprenticeship programme and received certificates presented by Homes For Lambeth’s interim Chief Executive, Sandra Roebuck, who said at the event, “I really enjoyed making the presentation to the apprentices. I was immensely proud of what they have achieved and that this has been made possible by HFL and by association, the Council.”
Speaking about their achievement, Eamonn Lorimer, who pioneered the apprentice scheme, reflected upon his initial vision:
“Homes For Lambeth created the programme because we needed to practice what we preached. We expect and require our contractors to provide a workforce with a proportion of local employees and we are committed to providing Lambeth residents with opportunities to start or develop their careers.
We recruited eight apprentices who started in January 2021, two of whom have been offered permanent positions within Homes For Lambeth as a result of their aptitude within their chosen areas while another three individuals leave us to take up roles in property, PR and recruitment respectively. I have been privileged to oversee their development and wish them all well.”
As well as our commitment to build thriving communities and more council and affordable homes to tackle the housing crisis here in Lambeth, providing our residents with the best opportunity in employment also lies at the heart of Homes for Lambeth’s mission.
The pandemic saw young people in Lambeth hit harder than most London boroughs and through our internships and apprenticeships we have directly targeted Lambeth residents.
One of those leaving HFL to take up a permanent role in another sector is a Lambeth resident whose journey began when they were given a flyer at one of our resident engagement events.
HFL looks forward to further developing the employability programme to enhance the job and training prospects for the people of Lambeth both within HFL and our supply chains.
